It's truly as simple as identifying and changing bad habits one by one. Take tiny baby steps, or tackle a whole bunch of things at once. Whatever your style is, just do it, and stick with it. It's not about doing it for a month and then quitting. It's about making slow progress until you wouldn't have it any other way. It becomes natural, and a way of life. The benefits are endless.
If you're curious about my path, it's pretty well documented on this blog. Go back to the beginning of the Health and Lifestyle section and work your way forward. I started my journey almost a decade ago, and I must say, it's one of the most important choices I've ever made.
- Mind. Learning, visualization, and focus are key. Pick up books on healthy living, watch YouTube videos on the subject, spend time at the library, find a person that's living the way you want to live and study them. Next, get a clear image in your mind that you want. Picture yourself outdoors, smiling, having fun, with that lean sexy body that you've always wanted. Then focus on it. When we focus on the positive, instead of the negative, we have something that motivates and excites us. Get emotionally involved with that image and start taking action day by day to make it happen.
- Body. Schedule time each day to go outside and be active in a fun way. It could be as little as walking for five minutes. Maintaining these small good habits is vital, so that we can't fail and we have something to improve upon. I'm reminded of a story about marksmanship training. The new students started with the target a foot away so that it was easy to get a bullseye. Then the instructors slowly moved it back. This method was very successful, because of the little victories along the way. Don't set yourself up to fail; set yourself up to win! Change how the game is played. This goes for diet as well. Changing everything at once can be very stressful. The body will go through withdrawals. So to get more fruits and veggies into the diet, start with the ones you do like. Then the next step would be to replace some of the junk food over time. Begin with the foods that you're not too attached to first. Or instead of eating cooked veggies, try raw veggies instead. One by one replace the bad habits. We all know deep down which ones are harmful.
- Spirit. Forgive yourself, and let go. The past is past, and nothing can be done about it. We all paid for it in someway, but what's important now is that we accept that and make a shift in our ways. Rest, relax, and go slowly. It's more about what we let go of in this life then what we add to it.
Small changes turn into big changes, and then before you know it,
you're living the way you envisioned. What can you start with today?
